A job that can be done at home would, for most people, be ideal. Not having to spend hours commuting is one reason why; not having to deal with a nasty boss is another. Both stay at home mothers and those with regular jobs are candidates for those wanting to earning to some extra money without having to leave the comfort of their homes. But is the Internet capable of providing a means for people to earn money online?

A few companies recruit professionals who work from home under tele commuting initiatives but it is only a select few (lucky and skilled) who are employed in this manner. Other enthusiastic persons who want to make money online will have to venture o their own or else work for a lesser pay.

One of the most popular ways to earn money online is through auction sites. Increasing numbers of people are buying items at reasonable prices from local retailers and then selling them on auction sites for a profit. Despite the delivery costs and commissions involved, many people are making money in this way. Popular items that people sell include designer clothing and concert tickets. There are online guides which teach the basics of selling over the Internet.

Piece-work jobs are also to be found over the Internet. These are jobs which are almost impossible for computers to perform, such as transcribing audio and checking that website content makes sense. While these jobs generally don’t pay well, they are certainly an appealing alternative for those who don’t like the constant scrutiny of a boss.

One of the fastest growing ways to make money online is through companies who outsource their call-centre work. New technologies mean that calls can be easily routed to people who work from home. These jobs include taking orders, sales and technical support. The more humble of these tasks still pay quite poorly, though, and you’ll need a quiet room in which to work from.

Many people have decided to set up their own businesses in order to earn money online. This is often as simple as setting up a website offering products for sale, advertising the website, and then waiting for orders to arrive. As with any commercial venture, an online business is not without its risks and some never recoup the investment they have made in setting up the enterprise.

For those people who desire to work out of their home, there are many ways for making money online. If a person’s employer does not offer a tele-commuting option, they can still earn money online. One way is to participate in online auction sites where people buy and re-sell merchandise. Another option is piece-rate work such as transcribing or verifying information. A third option is to work for a call center as a salesperson, order taker, or technical support person. Probably the riskiest option is to start an online business by building a website to market products or services.
