Everything you need to know about Compactors

by Cort Walberg

A compactor, as the name suggests, is a machine that is used to minimize or reduce the size of waste material, space or soil through the process of compacting.

Compactors are used for the purpose of industrial and commercial and waste use. Paper products or plastic bottles, aluminum cans are also recycled with the help of Compactors. Compactors reduce the waste into nearly 80% less garbage.

Among the other shape and size, compactors are mostly found in rectangular shape and large size that are managed hydraulically. In landfill areas, the waste materials are crushed by bulldozer beneath its wheels.

These compactors are meant for hydraulic operation with different loading configurations such as Walk-On, Ground-Access and Secured Indoor Chute. They are made of welded steel.

In the field of construction, the plate compactor, the “jumping jack” and the road roller are some of the main compactors available.

The jumping jack compactor has a smaller foot whereas the plate compactor has a large vibrating base-plate that is more suitable for creating a level grade.

The application of the jumping jack compactor is made in order to compact the backfill in narrow trenches for water or gas supply pipes.

The roller compactors are employed to compact crushed rock as the base layer beneath concrete foundations.

Trash compacters are employed in many service businesses such restaurants, fast food, and hotels in order to reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste as well as curb nuisance such as smell and rodents. Certain items such as disposable-diaper boxes, the non-edible portions of vegetables from a garden etc. are disposed with the help of these.

Waste products such as cardboard, plastic, paper, foil, cans, and aluminum go through the process of compacting by using a machine known as baler. It facilitates safe and efficient compaction of waste.
